According to a study by The Pew Charitable Trusts, "Most payday loan borrowers [in the United States] are white, female, and are 25 to 44 years old. However, after controlling for other characteristics, there are five groups that have higher odds of having used a payday loan: those without a four-year college degree; home renters; African Americans; those earning below $40,000 annually; and those who are separated or divorced." Most borrowers use payday loans to cover ordinary living expenses over the course of months, not unexpected emergencies over the course of weeks. The average borrower is indebted about five months of the year.[14]
A credit counselor, community assistance program or a nonprofit can help you create a budget and a debt repayment plan to repair your credit. The main benefit to credit counseling is solving the actual issues that led you to the financial problems in the first place. You may even have enough savings right away that’ll help you avoid taking out a payday loan.
APR Disclosure Some states have laws limiting the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) that a lender can charge you. APRs for cash advance loans range from 200% and 1386%, and APRs for installment loans range from 6.63% to 225%. Loans from a state that has no limiting laws or loans from a bank not governed by state laws may have an even higher APR. The APR is the rate at which your loan accrues interest and is based upon the amount, cost and term of your loan, repayment amounts and timing of payments. Lenders are legally required to show you the APR and other terms of your loan before you execute a loan agreement. APR rates are subject to change.
The due date for when a borrower must repay the loan coincides with the borrower’s payday. But this is scary: the median number of days consumers spent indebted to a payday loan lender is 199 days. For 55 percent of the year, those consumers were in debt. How can you be financially healthy when you’re in debt most of the year? Worse yet, 25 percent of borrowers were in debt for 300 days.

Consumer advocates and other experts[who?] argue, however, that payday loans appear to exist in a classic market failure. In a perfect market of competing sellers and buyers seeking to trade in a rational manner, pricing fluctuates based on the capacity of the market. Payday lenders have no incentive to price their loans competitively since loans are not capable of being patented. Thus, if a lender chooses to innovate and reduce cost to borrowers in order to secure a larger share of the market the competing lenders will instantly do the same, negating the effect. For this reason, among others, all lenders in the payday marketplace charge at or very near the maximum fees and rates allowed by local law.[25]

In August 2015, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) of the United Kingdom has announced that there have been an increase of unauthorized firms, also known as 'clone firms', using the name of other genuine companies to offer payday loan services. Therefore, acting as a clone of the original company, such as the case of Payday Loans Now.[30] The FCA strongly advised to verify financial firms by using the Financial Services Register, prior to participating in any sort of monetary engagement.[31]

Installment loans differ from payday loans by having longer terms and regular payments. With a payday loan, the entire amount comes due at the end of a set period, usually two weeks to a month. Installment loans have high rates – not as high as payday loans but higher than a personal loan or a credit card. Also, like payday loans, there’s no credit check or collateral required to apply.
Non-payment may involve debt collection practices as it is set by applicable law. The majority of the lenders in our network do not intend to sell your debt to outside collection agencies. Instead, they will attempt to collect the debt in-house via telephone, email, postal mail or even text message. Similarly, they will not threaten criminal charges or sue borrowers; they will generally offer debt settlements over time instead. Every lender in our network is required to adhere to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which protects consumers from being abused or harassed by debt collectors.
Although some have noted that these loans appear to carry substantial risk to the lender,[7][8] it has been shown that these loans carry no more long term risk for the lender than other forms of credit.[9][10][11] These studies seem to be confirmed by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission filings of at least one lender, who notes a charge-off rate of 3.2%.[12]
*Approval depends upon meeting legal, regulatory and underwriting requirements. If approved, online loans are funded the next business day. All times and dates are based on Eastern Standard Time (EST). Check `n Go and third party lenders may, at their discretion, verify application information by using national databases that may provide information from one or more national credit bureaus, and Check `n Go or third party lenders may take that into consideration in the approval process.

In US law, a payday lender can use only the same industry standard collection practices used to collect other debts, specifically standards listed under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The FDCPA prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, and deceptive practices to collect from debtors. Such practices include calling before 8 o'clock in the morning or after 9 o'clock at night, or calling debtors at work.[32]
Retired military personnel who served over 20 years or were medically discharged often can get help from aid organizations tied to their service branch. For instance, the Army Emergency Relief program gives grants and no-interest loans to those who can document a financial need. The group has provided about $600 million to soldiers and veterans since 9/11.
Before you apply, ensure that you won’t have any problems in repaying the loan. If you think you might have trouble, don’t take out the loan. Late or missed payments come with increased fees, charges and interest rates on top of negatively impacting your credit. Always work the repayment schedule into your budget, and the best loans will remain the best.
